Manuscript submission

The Journal of the North Carolina Association of Historians invites the submission of research manuscripts on an ongoing basis, but only those received before 5 April will be considered for the current year’s issue.

We welcome essays in all fields of history from both emerging and established scholars. Preference in scheduling publication is given to NCAH members, so we encourage prospective authors to become members of the Association, an inexpensive and easy process.

We do not accept manuscripts that are published elsewhere in print or electronically.

Style

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition (University of Chicago Press, 2010).  Endnotes rather than footnotes should be used to cite source material.

Submission Format

Manuscripts should be approximately 20-25 pages in length. They should be submitted electronically in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format to Gael Graham (graham@email.wcu.edu).  It is not necessary to submit a hard copy of the manuscript.   In addition to the manuscript itself, authors should submit a current c.v. and a cover sheet with the author’s name, title, affiliation, address, phone number, and email address included.

Images, Figures and Tables

If there are any accompanying images, figures, tables, and so on, they should be submitted electronically as separate files rather than embedded within the manuscript.  The author is encouraged to indicate in the manuscript the desired placement of visual materials.  Image files should be numbered sequentially so that there is no question as to placement (image1.jpg, image2.jpg, image3.jpg.) A list of captions should also be submitted if images or tables are to be included.

If using copyrighted images, the author must secure written permission for their reproduction in the Journal.  Digital images should be submitted as .tiff or .jpg files, minimum 300 dpi.

Other Information

The editors of the Journal reserve the right to return any manuscript that does not meet the requirements.
